Celebrating 2019 Black Professional Organizations

CELEBRATING 2019 BLACK PROFESSIONAL ORGANIZATIONS

From the time Africans were captured and brought to the Americas and enslaved they resisted. Their resistance took many forms, and all required some level of organization as they attempted to confront the horror of enslavement. And, throughout our history in America the tradition of organizing in the Black community continues as we confront, injustice, inequality, voter disenfranchisement, inadequate education, media bias, etc.
Today, we applaud African American legacy organizations such as the NAACP, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, the Prince Hall Masons, our fraternities and sororities, the Organization of Afro-American Unity, TransAfrica, the Association for the Study of Black Life, the National Association of Black Journalists and the list of resisters continues. No matter the membership of these organizations or the immediate or long term goal the
underlying raison d'etre is making better the lives of Black people wherever they may be.
In this our Fall edition of FunTimes Magazine we present a small sample of area African American organizations - some new, some venerable - that continue to follow the tradition of resistance, truth telling, people uplift, empowerment and simply, "making a way out of no way." And, to them FunTimes says Asanta sana!
