Michael Strahan Celebrates His 49th Birthday

Michael Anthony Strahan was born on November 21, 1971 in Houston, TX. Michael is the youngest of six children and his parents are Louise and Gene. His mother, a basketball coach, and his father, a boxer, and his uncle, a professional football player, a show the love of athletics clearly ran in the family.


Growing up an Army brat, Strahan moved frequently as a child even living in Mannheim, Germany for a time. Before his senior year, Michael was sent back to Texas to live with his uncle, Arthur. It was during this time that Strahan displayed his talent for football earning a scholarship to Texas Southern University.


Following in his uncle’s footsteps, Strahan played defensive end at TSU. By his Junior year, Strahan was quickly established as an NFL prospect. He was named Black College Defensive Player of the Year. In 1991, Strahan led the SWAC with 14.5 quarterback sacks. His 41.5 career sacks is a Texas Southern record.


Defensive End Michael Strahan was taken in the second round in the 1993 NFL Draft by the New York Giants. He was 40th pick overall. Strahan began as the regular starter on the right defensive end, but eventually, in 1996, switched to the left due to injuries on the team. In 1997,  he recorded 14 sacks, and was voted into his first Pro-Bowl. He was voted into his second of seven Pro-Bowls in 1998. 2001 proved to be Strahan’s best season, setting a record with 22.5 sacks.


 

After a successful 15-year football career, Strahan retired with 141.5 sacks, 854 career tackles, four career interceptions, 24 forced fumbles and three career touchdowns in 200 games. Shortly after his retirement, The Giants retired his jersey, no. 92. 

With his extensive knowledge and passion for the game, Strahan joined Fox NFL Sunday pregame show in 2008. In 2010, Strahan appeared as a guest host on Live! With Regis and Kelly. When Regis Philbin left the show, Strahan became a permanent host. Eventually, the show was renamed Live! With Kelly and Michael


In 2019, he left the show to join The Today Show full time while hosting for Fox NFL Thursday’s pregame show in 
2018. He now stars as the host of Strahan, Sara and Keke. He has even won some awards for his time on TV.



These days Michael Strahan manages his clothing line which he launched in 2015. He spends his time between LA and NY with his family.  appearing on shows filming in both areas. He is involved in philanthropy including volunteering with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, designing sneakers in which the proceeds were donated to Nike’s Let Me Play campaign, USO, HELP USA and Merging Vets and Players.


From football, to television ventures and philanthropy, Michael Strahan’s career has been exciting, and the world awaits what success he is still yet to achieve.
