Marsai Martin was born Caila Marsai Martin on August 14, 2004, in Dallas, TX. Her parents are Carol and Joshua Martin. Before she could even talk, Marsai Martin scored her first acting gig. By the time she was five years old, Marsai had booked her first national commercial for The Choice Hotel.

In 2013, her family then moved to Los Angeles so that she could pursue an acting career. One year later, Martin was cast as Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross’s daughter, Diane in Black-ish. The role of Diane would shoot her into the spotlight, and win her an NAACP Image Award and a Young Artist Award.

While Marsai still plays the role of Diane in Black-ish, she also reprised her role in its spinoff series, Mixed-ish. She has appeared on Black Lady Sketch Show and The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt. In addition to the role of Diane, she branched  out into film, as well. She has starred in An American Girl Story – Melody 1963: Love Has to Win, Fun Mom Dinner, Spirit Untamed, and Little.

When she was ten years old, she brought up the idea for a film to the creator of Black-ish, Kenya Barris, and just a few years later, at 15, Marsai Martin became the youngest-ever executive producer for her film Little in 2019.  Similar to the plot of Big, the movie tells the story of a person trapped in their own body, but at the wrong age. Marsai Martin starred as the younger version of Regina Hall, and the movie was met with mixed reviews, as it was softer than the first.

Martin has also done voiceover work for shows and movies like Paw Patrol: The Movie, Vampirina, and Elena of Avalor. In December 2019, it was announced that Martin would be producing the comedy film, Queen.

In such a short career, Marsai Martin has accomplished so much. We look forward to seeing what else this young, talented actress and producer accomplishes next.
