Dr. Kenneth Scott is Black excellence personified. As a child, he learned to harness the power of entrepreneurship through working with his father’s small business, and utilized his interest in the inner workings of objects to catapult himself into a career in engineering, research and science.

Through his work, Dr. Scott has investigated and solved science related issues, and provided resources to underserved communities in realms such as employment, entrepreneurship, affordable housing and more. He is also a global thought leader on community development and science and technology.

Dr. Scott has served on the White House Advisory Board for Technology and Education under the Obama Administration, consulted with industry leaders like Apple, NASA, Google, Cisco, SpaceX and Zoom, and is a frequent guest lecturer and panelist at conferences and universities on a global scale. He is also a long-time member of the National and Philadelphia Association of Black Journalists, and an executive producer of documentary films and television.

Dr. Scott joined Beech Companies as a volunteer, and became the president when the former president Floyd Alston retired. Beech Companies, which is a conglomerate that includes Beech Interplex, Inc., Beech Community Services, Beech Business Bank, Alston Beech Foundation, and the Beech Scholarship, provides community members with direct access to neighborhood revitalization through program and project support, commercial and economic development, educational and organizational grant programs, community venture endeavors, and media broadcasting.

In recognition of Dr. Scott’s contribution to science and Beech’s community services, Dr. Scott is being honored by the Wagner Free Institute of Science of Philadelphia at their ‘A Sip of Science’ 2021 Benefit Cocktail Party.

The Wagner Free Institute of Science of Philadelphia, a Victorian natural science and history museum and educational institution, has been providing free public science education since 1855, including lectures, adult courses, field trips, children’s lessons, and more. With over 100,000 natural history specimens for scholarly research and librarian and scientific study purposes, the Institute is a national historical landmark. All of the Institute's programs are free.

About 30 years ago, Wagner and Beech collaborated to design and launch GeoKids, a free science program for elementary students in local schools. Through Beech Companies, Dr. Scott continues to engage and help develop the growth of the program, which is the Institute’s largest children’s education program.

Join The Wagner Free Institute of Science of Philadelphia on Friday, November 12th, 2021, from 5:40 pm to 8:30 pm for their annual “A Sip of Science Benefit Cocktail Party” event. This event, which will be held at The Wagner at 1700 Montgomery Avenue, Philadelphia, PA, 19121, will honor Dr. Kenneth Scott, the CEO of Beech Companies, for his relentless community service, and raise funds for Wagner’s free science programs. Dr. Scott will make a keynote science address at the event.

“A Sip of Science”, Wagner's signature fundraiser event, brings together Wagner supporters, a distinguished honoree, and community members for ‘an experience of cocktails and camaraderie in the midst of its sublime natural history collections. Guests mingle among the specimens in the breathtaking Victorian museum and will have a chance to win a prize drawing, as well as enjoy hors d’oeuvres and raise funds for education programs like GeoKids and landmark preservation activities’.

In accordance with city policy, guests will be required to present proof of vaccination.
