History of the A.F.C.O.N. Cup
The Africa Cup of Nations, also known as the A.F.C.O.N. Cup, is a continental football tournament held every two years and organized by the Confederation of African Football (C.A.F.). The first edition of the A.F.C.O.N. cup was born in 1957, with only three teams participating in the tournament. The number of teams increased over the years, reaching 16 by 1998.
Egypt has won the most A.F.C.O.N. titles, with seven wins. They are closely followed by Cameroon, Ghana and Nigeria, who have won five, four and three championships, respectively.
