Marquis Hill
Chicago-born, New York-based trumpeter Marquis Hill stands at the confluence of modern jazz, hip-hop, R&B, neo-soul and a rich African American creative heritage. With echoes of icons like Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard and Donald Byrd, Hill’s virtuosity became clear when he won the Thelonious Monk Institute international competition in 2014. Since then, he’s worked with jazz stars including Marcus Miller, Joe Lovano and many others. For the midwest leg of his Composers Collective tour, Marquis is joined by a stellar lineup featuring Joel Ross (vibes), Mike King (keyboards), Kyle Myles (bass) and Corey Fonville (drums).
