Lt. Governor Oliver

First African America female Lt. Gov. of New Jersey!

My experience at Lincoln University was wonderful, indescribable, memorable, and life altering,” Sheila Oliver, Lieutenant Governor of New Jersey, described her attendance there.

Speaking to FunTimes recently, Lt. Gov. Oliver said, “I would say to new graduates that time goes by very fast. Don't think you have forever to do what you want to do. Make each day a useful day and don't get caught up in getting to just one certain destination. Live life and go on life's journey. It's about the accumulation of things that you do over time. Eventually, these things will lead you to get where you want to go.”

When asked how she uses her experience as an HBCU graduate in her work, Lt. Gov. Oliver said, “Certainly my understanding that Lincoln was built because of lack of access to opportunity for people of color, is key.Even though we have come a long way from 1854, there continues to be barriers preventing people of color to have full participation in American society.

Therefore, that helps me understand, in my role as lieutenant governor, to bring that perspective no matter what room I am in, or whatever I am doing.”
