In 2024, we face a crucial deadline that has significant implications for many individuals and families across the country. This year marks the last opportunity to claim the COVID-19 economic stimulus payments for 2020. These payments were a key part of the government's response to the pandemic, designed to provide financial relief to those affected by the economic downturn.

When the pandemic struck, it brought with it both health concerns and also severe financial challenges. Jobs were lost, and many found their incomes drastically reduced. In response, the government introduced these stimulus payments to help ease the burden. The aim was to provide a financial cushion to those hardest hit, helping them to manage the unexpected expenses and losses during this difficult time.

However, despite these payments' critical role in mitigating financial hardships, a surprising amount of this aid remains unclaimed. It is a significant issue because this unclaimed money is more than just unused funds; it represents a missed opportunity for many to alleviate the financial strains of poverty. While we do not know the amount left unclaimed, estimates suggest it is in the billions. This staggering figure highlights the need for greater awareness and accessibility to these vital financial aids.

The Campaign for Working Families (CWF) is deeply committed to ensuring that everyone who is eligible gets the chance to claim their stimulus payment. Throughout the 2024 tax season, CWF is offering assistance to those who have not yet claimed their stimulus. Help is available through various means, including visiting a nearby tax site or using CWF’s virtual tax filing service.

In a time when economic challenges are prevalent, it is crucial that these billions in stimulus funds do not go unclaimed. Claiming this money can make a real difference in the lives of many, providing much-needed relief and support. As the deadline approaches, it is important for everyone eligible to take action and claim what they are entitled to.
