Body of Work: Zeinabu Irene Davis

Join Scribe Video Center for a retrospective series celebrating the works of veteran filmmaker Zeinabu Irene Davis beginning Wednesday, December 2. Cultivating her craft as part of the UCLA film school cohort that has come to be called “the L.A. Rebellion”, Davis’s range of dramatic, non-fiction and experimental work offers a fully realized view of the Black female experience. Concerned with the depiction of women of African descent, she passionately threads Black womanhood, folklore, and intimacy within her films. The five film projects explore Black feminism, the art and life of jazz artist Clora Bryant, the L.A. Rebellion film movement, and Black deaf culture. The retrospective begins with a screening of Compensation on December 2. Cycles, A Period Piece, and Trumpetistically, Clora Bryant screen on December 3rd. The series closes with a screening of Spirits of Rebellion: Black Independent Cinema from Los Angeles on December 4 at 7:00PM.
